Stepa started to under the tutelage of his father who was one of the "top gans" in the former Soviet Union.In 1988 Stepa was the finalist in the Junior Summer Games.Third at the Red Army Championchip and finalist at the Sovet Union Championship.
Stepa was the Penn State Junior Champion in 1991 and the finalist in 1990.
He started his coaching career with the Great Neck High Scool fencing team and led them to numerous championship title . His students are among the top rated fencers in the United States .
Stepa is a world rated fencing director and currently represents our country as a referees on the international World Cup circuit.
